Glendora - "Pride of the Foothills"
Welcome to the City of Glendora. Our city is a very special place, with special people who have a deep appreciation for the community's history and tradition.
More than a century after being settled in 1847 and nearly 100 years after its incorporation in 1911, Glendora still retains many of the characteristics treasured by its founding fathers. Envisioned by George D. Whitcomb, the city of Glendora was named after his wife, Leadora Whitcomb, and the layout of the city was established with 6000 pepper trees planted along the level streets. Since its incorporation, Glendora has evolved from a stable agricultural center into a bustling, growing and beautiful city.
Nestled in the foothills of the picturesque San Gabriel Mountains, Glendora is only 27 miles (as the crow flies) or only an hour's drive from the bustle of Los Angeles. It is a community where the police are respected and the crime rate is low. A place where high-quality schools are plentiful and homes of worship available. Glendora is a community in which neighbors know and speak to one another. Business people work together with the collaborative spirit and zeal of their pioneering ancestors. And they turn out in high numbers to celebrate annual festivities such as the 'Flashback to the '50s', and the Route 66 Mile Run.
In Glendora, everyone is family and families are cherished. Glendora is simply a great place to live, work and play for people who cherish small-town living and traditional American values.
Whether you're a first-time visitor to our city, or are considering moving here to reside, raise a family or open a business, we want you to know that that we welcome you with open arms.
